Register a Business Name in Iron County, UT
This service isn't handled by the County Clerk. Here's where to go instead.
File your Assumed Business Name online for $22, renewed at $18. The Division of Corporations handles all business-name registration — the county clerk has no role. The renewal price already includes a $5 surchargefor the State of Utah's single sign-on portal, so $18 is what you pay rather than a base to add to. Renewing late costs a further $10. Cancelling or transferring an assumed name is free.
From 1 October 2026 this chapter is replaced, and two new requirements start. Title 42 Chapter 2 stops being “Conducting Business Under Assumed Name” and becomes “Conducting Business As A D.B.A.” (enacted by Chapter 93, 2026 General Session). Two things change for a filer, and neither applies before that date:
A 30-day deadline. Utah Code § 42-2-201(1) requires the D.B.A. certificate to be filed with the Division “no later than 30 days after the day on which the entity begins to carry out, conduct, or transact the entity's business”. Today there is no such deadline.
A registered agent. § 42-2-201(2)(b) requires the certificate to designate and maintain a registered agent in Utah under Title 16, Chapter 1a, Part 4. Today a sole proprietor filing an Assumed Business Name does not need one.
The three-year term survives, with a harder ending. § 42-2-8 (“effective for a period of three years from the date of filing”) is repealed and § 42-2-204 replaces it. The term stays at three years, and from 1 October renewal opens 60 days before it expires, the expiry notice goes to your registered agent rather than your mailing address, and if you do not renew within 30 days of that notice the registration is permanently expired and anyone may immediately claim your name.
