In Utah a DBA is an Assumed Business Name filed with the Utah Division of Corporations and Commercial Code under Utah Code Title 42, Chapter 2 - not the county clerk. The fee is $22 to register and $18 to renew, and that $18 already includes a $5 surcharge for the state's single sign-on portal. A filing lasts 3 years (Utah Code § 42-2-8). The process

1. File with the state, not the county

   The fee is $22 to register. The Division of Corporations handles all business-name registration; the county clerk has no role.

2. Renew every 3 years

   Renewal is $18, due every 3 years (Utah Code § 42-2-8). The $18 already includes a $5 single sign-on surcharge, so it is the total rather than a base. Renewing late costs a further $10; cancelling or transferring is free.

3. From 1 October 2026, two new duties and a harder expiry

   Utah Code § 42-2-201(1) requires the certificate filed no later than 30 days after business begins, and § 42-2-201(2)(b) requires a registered agent in Utah. § 42-2-204 replaces § 42-2-8: still a 3 year term, but renewal opens 60 days before expiry, the expiry notice goes to the registered agent, and 30 days after that notice the registration is permanently expired and anyone may claim the name.
