About ClerkSifter

Know what to bring, what it costs, and which forms you need — before you go

ClerkSifter is a free public resource that tells you exactly what to bring, what it costs, and which forms you need before visiting a county clerk's office.

Why we built this

County clerk offices are some of the most visited government offices in America — but fees are buried in PDFs, form names don't match what people search for, and payment methods are never listed upfront. ClerkSifter was born from a real experience: driving to the clerk's office, waiting in line, and finding out the form had a different name and the fee wasn't what was expected.

What we cover

ClerkSifter covers 2,014+ counties and localities across 26 states — roughly three out of four Americans — with fees, office information, required documents, and links to official forms for services like marriage licenses, business name registration (DBA), birth and death certificates, voter registration, and more.

Where our data comes from

Our information comes from official sources: state statutes, county clerk offices' own websites, and direct verification with clerk offices. Every page shows its verification status, and fees set by state statute are cited to the statute. We always recommend calling ahead to confirm — government fees and hours change.

Corrections

Spot something wrong? Use the “Submit a Correction” link on any page, or email hello@clerksifter.com. Corrections from clerk offices themselves are especially welcome.

Who runs this
