Register a Business Name in Washington County, PA

In Pennsylvania a “DBA” is a Fictitious Name, and it is registered with the Pennsylvania Department of State — not the county. The filing fee is $70. File online at file.dos.pa.gov.
If the business includes an individual (e.g. a sole proprietor), you must advertise the filing in two newspapers — one of general circulation and one legal journal — in the county. You keep the proof of publication with your records; it is not filed with the Department of State (54 Pa.C.S. § 311).
