Get a Birth Certificate in Bergen County, NJ
This service isn't handled by the County Clerk. Here's where to go instead.
Birth certificates come from the MUNICIPAL registrar where the event occurred, or the NJ Office of Vital Statistics — not the County Clerk.
🌐 Go to the official portalnj.gov ↗One state form covers birth, death and marriage records. The state charges $25.00 for the first certified copy and $2.00 for each additional copy of the same record ordered at the same time. Mail it to the Office of Vital Statistics and Registry, PO Box 370, Trenton — not to this office. The local registrar in the municipality where the event happened can also issue copies and is often quicker, but municipal fees vary, so ring them first. Take REG-27A rather than REG-37A: REG-37A is the version local registrars use internally, and many municipal websites host it where the public can mistake it for theirs.
⚠️ This office does not process birth certificates. Use the agency linked above. The office below is your county's County Clerk — useful for other services.
