Any person who adopts a trade name “may file in the office of the Secretary of State on a form furnished by the Secretary of State an application” (Neb. Rev. Stat. § 87-210) — filing is optional, and the county does not take it. If you register, the registration “shall be published by the applicant once in a newspaper of general circulation” where the business is located, and proof of publication is filed with the Secretary of State (§ 87-219).
