The fee for recording a standard document is “$20 for the first page or fraction of a page and $10 a page for each additional page or fraction of a page” (MCA 7-4-2637(1)(a), as amended by Ch. 480, L. 2025). A document that does not meet the format requirements of 7-4-2636 costs “the fee specified in subsection (1) plus $10” (7-4-2637(2)). The county clerk is “ex officio recorder” (7-4-2611(1)).
The fee will start to change in 2027
“Beginning July 1, 2027, the department of revenue shall set the fee under this subsection (1) by administrative rule to adjust for inflation” (MCA 7-4-2637(1)(b)); the code has it adjusted every two years.
