Missouri fictitious name (DBA) registrations are filed with the Secretary of State, online or on the paper form (Corp. 56). The Secretary of State's schedule of fees lists $7.00to create, renew, correct or amend a fictitious name registration, and cancelling one is free. The statute's own line, RSMo 417.220.1, is $2.00; the schedule says its figures include $5.00 for the Technology fund where applicable. Paying electronically adds a small convenience fee that the state does not keep.

Active-duty military and the Missouri National Guard: RSMo 417.220.2 says the fee shallbe waived — it is not discretionary — if a party owning any interest in the business is a member of the Missouri National Guard or other active-duty military, lives in Missouri, and provides proof of that service to the Secretary of State. It does not cover veterans who are no longer serving. The Secretary of State's Startup for Soldiers program waives the whole filing fee for a fictitious name registration, and accepts a letter from your service or your military ID card (CAC) as proof. It says it cannot waive the fee on an online filing: file in person or by mail, or contact the office the same day you file online for a refund.
