South Dakota Marriage License — SDCL 25-1-10

SDCL 25-1-10 says a license “shall be obtained from the county register of deeds of any county, the fee for which is forty dollars”. The same section sends $30 of it to the county's domestic-abuse program fund — that share is part of the $40.00, not added to it. Both of you sign the application in person in front of the register of deeds (SDCL 25-1-10.1). The Department of Health says there is no blood test and no waiting period.
How long it lasts, and where you can use it
The license is void unless the marriage is solemnized within 90 days of issue (SDCL 25-1-24). You can get it from the register of deeds of any South Dakota county, not only Turner County, and it is for a marriage in South Dakota.
A certified copy afterwards
A certified copy of the recorded marriage is $15.00 (ARSD 44:09:06:02(3)) from any register of deeds or the Department of Health.
Free for service members and veterans — certified marriage copies
South Dakota law says no charge may be madefor a certified copy of a birth, death or marriage record “to a serviceman in or a veteran of any war or conflict”, or to a member of their family, when it is needed for a claim (SDCL 34-25-54).
