Register a Business Name in Wyoming County, NY
Here's what to expect at the County Clerk — fees, what to bring, and where to go.
In New York, a DBA is a Business Certificate. Sole proprietors and general partnerships file it with the County Clerk — this office — of each county where business is transacted (General Business Law § 130(1)(a)), and the certificate must be executed and duly acknowledged— notarized. The fee is not the county's to set: CPLR § 8021(b)(2) puts it at $100 in the counties within the city of New York and $25 in all other counties, and says no fee at all for filing a discontinuance. Certified copies are extra, and banks usually want one or two.
An LLC or corporation using another name files a Certificate of Assumed Name with the NY Department of State, not the county.
Complete at home and bring to the County Clerk. Standardized statewide (form X-201); your county clerk may host its own copy.
