Voter registration in New York isn't handled by the County Clerk

Registration in New York is run by the county board of elections, not the County Clerk: Election Law Β§ 3-200(1) puts β€œa board of elections in each county of the state and in the city of New York for the five counties thereof” β€” so the five boroughs share one board. Three online routes lead to the same place: the State Board of Elections portal (no DMV ID needed), the DMV portal (needs a MyDMV account and a DMV-issued ID), and the NYC Board of Elections for the boroughs. Paper and in-person registration go to your county board. Deadlines, from Election Law Β§ 5-210(3): a mailed application must be postmarked by the fifteenth day before the election and received by the tenth; delivered in person, by the tenth.
