Deeds, mortgages and land records are the Register of Deeds' records, and MCL § 600.2567(1) is that office's fee schedule: “To certify a recorded document, $5.00”and “For copies of any records or papers, if required, $1.00 per page”. Recording a document costs $30.00 regardless of length. A grantor/grantee search is 50 cents per year with a $5.00 minimum.
In Monroe County these are the same office. Michigan's constitution lets each county board “combine the offices of county clerk and register of deeds in one office or separate the same at pleasure” (Const. 1963, Art. What to bring
- The property address, and better still the parcel number or the legal description. Land records are indexed by grantor and grantee name, not by street address, so a name and an approximate year is what actually finds a deed.
- The names of the buyer and seller if you know them, and roughly when the transfer happened. MCL 600.2567(1)(e) prices a grantor/grantee search at 50 cents per year searched with a $5.00 minimum, so a narrower date range costs less.
- Payment — $1.00 per page for a plain copy, $5.00 to have a recorded document certified.
Recording a new document is $30.00 regardless of length under MCL 600.2567(1)(a), which includes $5.00 into the county automation fund.
