In Mackinac County, recording is handled by the Register of Deeds, not the County Clerk.

In Mackinac County the Register of Deeds is a separate office from the County Clerk. Michigan's constitution lets each county board combine or separate the two at pleasure (Const. 1963, Art. VII, § 4), and Mackinac County keeps them apart. Land records are at the Mackinac County Register of Deeds, not at the clerk's counter — the address and hours on this page are the clerk's. What to bring
- The property address, and better still the parcel number or the legal description. Land records are indexed by grantor and grantee name, not by street address, so a name and an approximate year is what actually finds a deed.
- The names of the buyer and seller if you know them, and roughly when the transfer happened. MCL 600.2567(1)(e) prices a grantor/grantee search at 50 cents per year searched with a $5.00 minimum, so a narrower date range costs less.
- Payment — $1.00 per page for a plain copy, $5.00 to have a recorded document certified.
Recording a new document is $30.00 regardless of length under MCL 600.2567(1)(a), which includes $5.00 into the county automation fund.
