Two witnesses — at the ceremony, not at the counter. KRS 402.050(2): “At least two (2) persons, in addition to the parties and the person solemnizing the marriage, shall be present at every marriage.” You do not need them to get the licence — you need them standing there when you marry.

Fill out the application online
Complete the Application for Marriage License on the Henderson County website before you go. It will be ready when you arrive.

Both parties go together
Both of you must appear at the clerk's office at the same time. You cannot apply separately.

Bring your IDs
Each person needs a valid (not expired) government-issued photo ID — driver's license from any state, or passport.

Review, take an oath, and sign
The clerk will review your information with you, you'll take an oath, and both of you will sign the license.

Get married in Kentucky within 30 days
Your license is valid for 30 days and the ceremony must take place in Kentucky.
