Register a Business Name in Kearny County, KS

The Kansas Secretary of State’s Register a Business page states that “Sole proprietors do not register with the Kansas Secretary of State”, and that the business-entity application “does not register an assumed, fictitious, trade, or DBA (doing business as) name”. There is no DBA filing at this office and none at the state. You can legally operate under a trade name without filing anything. For name protection, consider a federal trademark. Corporations, LLCs and other entities formed under the Kansas General Corporation Code do register the entity itself with the Secretary of State, which is a different filing from a DBA. Check with your city or county for any local business license requirements.
