$28marriage license — Canyon County's own published figure

Idaho marriage licenses are issued by the County Recorder — the same elected official and office as the County Clerk (Idaho Code § 32-401). The amount the law requires is $28, and it comes from three places, not one: $11.00 under Idaho Code § 31-3205(1)(k) (issuing the license, filing, recording and indexing the certificate of marriage, and taking and filing the affidavits — retained by the county recorder), $15.00 under Idaho Code § 39-5213(1) (remitted to the state treasurer for the domestic violence project account created by § 39-5212), and $2.00 under IDAPA 16.02.08.501 (recording the marriage certificate — the figure Idaho Code § 39-263 delegates to the Board of Health and Welfare, which § 39-242 authorizes to make rules for Title 39, Chapter 2). Idaho Code § 32-408, which some sources cite for a marriage fee, states no amount — it points to § 31-3205. Canyon County publishes $28 — cash, or card with a 2.5% transaction fee ($2.00 minimum). Read it on the county's own page ↗ Where a county asks for more than the mandated fee it is normally a certified copy sold with the license — the document a party needs for a name change. Latah and Twin Falls both itemize it that way. There is no waiting period, no blood test, and no residency requirement, and no witnesses are required — § 32-304 asks only that the parties declare themselves married in the presence of the person solemnizing the marriage. Social Security number:§ 32-403(2) requires the application to include it, but § 32-403(2)(a) limits that “only to applicants who have been assigned a social security number”. An applicant who has never been assigned one instead brings written verification from the Social Security Administration, a birth certificate, passport or other foreign-issued documentary evidence, and proof of lawful presence (§ 32-403(2)(b)). Photo ID and both parties attending together are county practice, not Idaho law — § 32-403 requires no identification document from an applicant who has an SSN and imposes no personal-appearance requirement; where the recorder does not personally know the parties are competent to marry, § 32-403(1) has him take affidavits instead. Most Idaho counties do ask for both, so bring photo ID and go together. The license is valid 1 year, must be used in Idaho, and the officiant must return it to the issuing County Recorder within 30 days (§ 32-402) — a misdemeanor if not returned.
