The statute will not tell you either: § 382.0255(1)(a) prices one component of the work — the first year of records searched, with a certification — at $3 to $5, and that is not what a counter charges: the 57 Florida county health departments that do publish a figure charge $7.00 to $20.00 for a certificate.

The years this office can serve. It issues deaths registered anywhere in Florida from 2009 to the present. Anything earlier comes from the Department of Health's Bureau of Vital Statistics in Jacksonville, which holds the state's older records — so check the year before you make the trip.
Who may have one. § 382.025(1) gives a death certificate to the person named if of legal age, a parent, guardian or legal representative, and to a spouse, child, grandchild or sibling of legal age. A copy WITH the cause of death is restricted to those relatives or a court order until 50 years after the date of death (§ 382.025(1)(b)); anyone may buy a copy WITHOUT it.
Ordering from the state Bureau of Vital Statistics costs $5.00 for the first certificate and $4.00 for each additional copy ordered at the same time; county health department fees vary. Tick either WITHOUT cause of death or WITH cause of death — Florida restricts the cause-of-death version to eligible applicants, and the rules are printed on the back of the form. Mail it to the Bureau in Jacksonville, walk it in, or take it to a local county health department — not to this office. Include a copy of your photo ID.
